CURRENT TRAINING TOPIC
May 2025 Tool & Equipment
This month's tools & equipment training is the Battery PPV Ram Fan. Attached below is a 4 page document intended to guide the15 training. As a shift, review the document, scan the QR codes to watch the training videos, and physically review the contents of the Elkhart Standpipe Bag. Also, spend 5 - 10 minutes reviewing the function and application of the various appliances and adaptors located in the engineers compartment on 1633 and 1679. Shift Commanders must complete a paper drill report, which should be placed in Lieutenant Heintz's mailbox.

May 2025 Classroom Topics
This month's classroom training will cover two topics: Chief Kastros Webinar: NIOSH 5 and Policy 101 Review: Harassment.

Webinar Portion:
Watch the NIOSH 5 webinar presented by Chief Kastros and discuss the key points in relation to our department's operations. Please direct any questions to Lieutenant Heintz. Shift Commanders must complete a paper drill report and place it in Lieutenant Heintz's mailbox upon completion.

Policy Review Portion:
Review policy 101 (Harassment), which is posted on the bulletin board outside the Fire Chief's office. Shift Commanders must complete a separate paper drill report for this portion and also submit it to Lieutenant Heintz's mailbox.

May 2025 Hands-On Topics
This month's classroom training will involve two topics: New Engine 1633 Driver Training and Minuteman Hoseline Deployment.

New 1633 Driver Training:
Details about an upcoming driver training course will be available soon. Once released, the information will be posted both here and in the radio room.
​
Minuteman Hose Load:
Spend time this month working on both deploying and packing the Minuteman hose load.
​
Indoor Training:
Use the aluminum training train and the three 100' Minuteman bundles located between Bay 8 and 9. Use the aluminum training tray to practice and drill on hose packing and deployment techniques. The three 100' bundles are for quick and effective drills on various deployment methods.
​
Outdoor Training:
Use the cross-lays on new Engine 1633 to practice more realistic deployments.
​
The primary goal is to build efficiency in both packing the hose load and deploying it under different conditions.
​
Below are links to a packaging guide and videos demonstrating several deployment methods.

Please direct any questions or concerns to Lieutenant Heintz. Shift Commanders must complete a paper drill report and place it in Lieutenant Heintz's mailbox upon completion.

As a shift, review the document, scan the QR code to watch the 2:30 video, and physically review the fan. Shift Commanders must complete a paper drill report, which should be placed in Lieutenant Heintz's mailbox.

April 2025 Classroom Topics
This month's classroom training covers two topics: Strategy & Tactics and Reading Smoke.
For the Strategy & Tactics portion, we will review the House Fire POM. Several copies of this document are available in the radio room. As a shift, review the document and discuss its key points. Please direct any questions or concerns to Lieutenant Heintz. Shift Commanders must complete a paper drill report, which should be placed in Lieutenant Heintz's mailbox upon completion.
For the Reading Smoke portion, two PowerPoint presentations have been prepared: "Reading Smoke – Flow Path" and "Reading Smoke – Size-Up." As a shift, review these presentations and discuss their application. Shift Commanders must complete a separate paper drill report for each presentation, and submit them to Lieutenant Heintz's mailbox.

Each of these three trainings are intended to be completed on separate shifts.
